How to pull a prop that is held in place by a cotter pin. the motor used in this video is a 1969 sailmaster 4hp the. for tools you need a pair of pliers, and some scrap news paper, and if the prop is fouled with barnacles or sea grass you will need a painters scraper. start by un bending the cotter pin. then pull the pin from the rounded end until it is all the way out if you don't have a new one to put in its place do not drop it, or lose it! the start pulling the prop off the shaft there is a pin at the end of the shaft that will fall out so make sure you don't lose it! now the prop is off and you can lube the shaft get a new prop, or what ever repair may be needed. to put the prop back on do all the steps backwards. and please remember to unplug the gas tank and or electric start the last thing you want to happen is have the prop spinning and cut you up it will also wreck the motor.
